Veterans Recovery Resources is a community-based mental wellness program being developed specifically for Veterans, by Veterans. Founded and led by John Kilpatrick, a 32-year Army reservist with expertise in hospital administration, John and his team understand the needs of our Veteran population. The organization is committed to accelerating Veteran well-being by removing the barriers to mental health care and providing the highest-quality, compassionate and affordable care to those who have served our country so faithfully.

The mission of The Community Foundation of South Alabama is to seek to bring together and direct philanthropic assets to make southwest Alabama a better place. Since its inception, the Community Foundation has grown to over 450 funds and awarded over $79 million in grants and scholarships throughout the eight counties of southwest Alabama, improving the lives of many residents in our corner of the world. The Veterans Initiative is a four-year, $600,000 effort made possible by competitive grants and donations to the Foundation’s Veterans Fund.

As we near Armed Forces Day, we are pleased to announce that Veterans Recovery Resources has established its permanent campus in mid-town Mobile at 1156 Springhill Avenue. Veterans Recovery Resources is a community-based public charity focused on removing the barriers to mental healthcare for Veterans and their families suffering from substance abuse and mental wellness issues.

Thanks in part to a grant from The Community Foundation of South Alabama’s Veterans Initiative and the Monte L. Moorer Charitable Trust, the organization has purchased two buildings located on a three-acre parcel in the medical corridor on Springhill Avenue. Once renovated, they will serve as the permanent campus for the non-profit’s unique recovery program, filling a critical gap in services available to Veterans.

Renovations on the smaller building have already begun. It will serve as the organization’s Outpatient Clinic while funds are raised for the larger building. The Outpatient Clinic is scheduled to open by the end of the summer. Naming opportunities are available for donors wishing to make a positive and lasting impact on the city.
