John Kilpatrick, LGSW
Founder & Executive Director
John has a bold vision to change how Veterans can return to normal lives after combat. With 32 years’ military service, including 12 years as an intelligence analyst in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, 20 years as a Medical Service Corps Officer in the U.S. Army Reserve, and four deployments, he has experienced first-hand the challenges service members and their families can face returning to civilian life. He founded Veterans Recovery Resources to offer a new approach for those needing support. In 2016, John was awarded the Order of Military Medical Merit by the Army Medical Department for his outstanding character and service. He earned his Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama.

Dr. Joe Currier, PhD
Clinical Lead
Joe is leading the effort to develop and implement a leading-edge, holistic, and community-based approach to promoting health and recovery with Veterans struggling with mental wellness issues. He is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor/Director of Clinical Training for the Clinical/Counseling Psychology Doctoral Program at University of South Alabama. Joe has worked with military Veterans as a clinician and researcher for over a decade, both within the VA system and in the community, fueling a deep passion to enhance existing models and practices for supporting Veterans and their families.

Dr. Lynn Yonge, MD
Medical Advisor
Lynn is the senior partner of Bay Medical Family Practice and the medical director of Strickland Youth Center in Mobile and Pathways of Baldwin County. He is an assistant clinical professor at the USA College of Medicine, his alma mater, and the UAB School of Medicine. Lynn is the past president of Baldwin County Medical Society and Thomas Hospital Medical Staff. He currently serves on the Board of the Wilderness Medical Society and the Alabama Wilderness Medical Association. A lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, Lynn and his wife Cori have two children.

Erin McAdams, PA-C, MHS
Erin is a Co-Director of Clinical Education and Assistant Professor at the University of South Alabama in the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. She joined the U.S. Army National Guard in 2008 and is currently a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. Erin is dedicated to helping Veterans and their families improve their health and is passionate about breaking down the barriers of siloed healthcare in the community, leading the way toward a holistic approach to mental health care and chronic disease management.

Dr. Jeremy Fletcher, PT, DPT, OCS
Jeremy is a Physical Therapist and an Asst. Professor at the University of South Alabama. He uses a mind-body approach to reduce chronic pain and improve quality of life for all Service Members. Jeremy brings extensive experience working directly with Veterans through his active duty in the U.S. Army, which included one deployment to Afghanistan, and in the Army Reserves where he is currently a Major. He holds a number of degrees, including a Graduate Certificate from the University of Alabama—Birmingham and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of South Alabama.

Dr. Marjorie Scaffa, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA, LPC
Marjorie serves as the Director of Program Development at VRR. She has a PhD and 35 years of experience as an Occupational Therapist, holds a doctorate in Health Education and Community Health, and a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Dr. Scaffa has written several occupational therapy textbooks focused on community-based practice. She works with Veterans using a solution-focused, strengths-based approach to therapy with the ability to integrate other theoretical approaches to meet the needs of individual clients. She has expertise in health promotion and prevention, family and relationship issues, and helping others overcome grief and trauma.

Lloyd Michael Austin, Peer Support
“Austin” is a combat Veteran of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm in Iraq (1990-1991), and achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army. He is a local small business owner, a minister at Faith Ministries and actively supports Veterans in crisis. Austin is currently training to be a Veteran Peer Support Specialist and is deeply committed to serving the Veteran community in any way that he can. He met his wife of 30 years, Charlyn, in the U.S. Army, where she served 22 years as a medic. Together, they live in Mobile, Alabama with their children and grandchildren.

Lori Renner, LGSW, RN
Lori has worked as an ER Nurse for over 25 years, both inside and outside the military. She served 8 years as a Medic in the U.S. Army, with deployments to Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Camp Humphreys in South Korea and Desert Storm. As a military child, spouse and Veteran, she has seen all sides of the armed services and the challenges that Veterans and their families face. Lori earned her Master in Social Work from the University of Alabama. She is serves at Veterans Recovery Resources with great enthusiasm to combine her clinical skills and experience towards supporting other Veterans and families in their health and lifestyle goals.

Dr. Glenn Hollingsworth, PhD, LMFT, LPC
Glenn is licensed as both a couple and family therapist and a professional counselor. He is an Assistant Professor and the Director of Clinical Training in the University of Mobile’s marriage and family counseling program. Glenn initially began working with military families in a research capacity while in grad school, such as conducting focus groups with military kids and attending Yellow Ribbon events to learn about the impact of deployment on military couples (and vice versa). It was through those experiences, however, that he developed a desire to use his clinical skills as a systemic therapist to help families reach a “new normal” after facing combat stressors, prolonged separations, and often bumpy reintegrations.

Josh Moore
Josh served eight years as a Combat Engineer in the U.S. Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Sergeant and completing three combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. He is currently the Commandant/President of the Marine Corps League Sgt. Foster L Harrington Detachment #1449 and a Volunteer Research Assistant at the University of South Alabama (USA) Trauma Reactions and Interpersonal Loss Lab. Josh earned his B.S. in Psychology with a Minor in Criminal Justice from USA and is now pursuing his Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Dr. Phillip Smith, PhD
Phillip is a licensed Clinical Psychologist and an Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of South Alabama. He specializes in the study and prevention of suicide and provides clinical training and supervision to doctoral students in clinical and counseling psychology. Phillip is also a member of the “Operation Deep Dive” research team along with America’s Warrior Partnership and the University of Alabama. This project aims to reduce Veteran suicides by identifying critical social, cultural, and community factors that promote connectedness and can serve as early interventions that inform the public health approach to suicide prevention.
